Check an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser
Step 1. Open the official register: hcpc-uk.org/check-the-register
Step 2. Enter the person’s surname (or registration number). Profession: Hearing aid dispenser.
Step 3. Confirm: status Registered, and note the registration number — it should match what the clinic told you.
Step 4. Check for conditions of practice or sanctions on the record.
Red flags
- Clinic won’t give you the dispenser’s registration number.
- Number not found on the register.
- “Registered abroad” — UK practice requires HCPC registration.
Protected title
“Hearing aid dispenser” is a protected title. Practising without HCPC registration is a criminal offence. If in doubt, report concerns to HCPC.
